Porsche only produced a total of 250 American Roadsters, and only for the US market. This particular example is in superlative condition and has been updated in several important areas:
If Porsche would have offered a Turbo or Turbo S version of the American Roadster, this would have been it - this car has a correct 1992 3.3L Turbo engine. The deck lid was updated to the correct turbo style to accomodate the turbo engine. In addition, the interior door panels and seats have been updated to the much desired 993 styles, giving this car an even fresher appearance. To complete the update, the wheels are those from the even rarer 1994 965 Turbo 3.6.
Condition:
The car is stunning. It won People's Choice Award at the Hill Coutry Region Porsche Club of America concourse event. The doors, fenders, decklid, and trunk all are 100% dent and ding-free. Paint is a 9.9 out of 10 - only the front bumper cover has any flaws, which are barely visible.
Items that are NEW or replaced within the last 1000 miles:
• Tires (<50 miles) • Clutch • Convertible Top • Windshield • Brake Pads • Anti-Sway Bar Mounts • Starter • Battery • Hood Struts • Deck Lid Struts • Taillights • Taillight Center Reflector • Aux. This particular car had been stolen from the previous owner in Oklahoma, and recovered with a number of parts removed. This was the opportunity to restore and update. After it was purchased and restored six years ago at 49,900 miles, it was used as daily driver for the following 3 years by a professional, as well as being routinely entered in various PCA Concourse events. The last three years it has seen very little use, perhaps 1-5 days per month, 500 miles/year. It has spent the entire six years in an air controlled garage.
Chassis currently has 94,550 miles (actual). Turbo engine has approximately 30,000 miles less.
The turbo engine has been perfect. The engine has had no leaks, not a drop of oil under the car during the full term of ownership. It has been well-maintained, with valve-adjustment recently done. It starts instantly no matter how long it's been sitting, and in any temperature. Engine does not consume oil (other than what is considered normal by Porsche). The engine has never had the slightest bit of smoke, even at start-up.
The engine has modest modifications: full B&B headers and exhaust system, 1 bar wastegate spring, K&N air filter and intake. Full dyno chart available indicating 425HP. Although powerful on the top end, it is extremely docile with a 100% stock feel while in normal daily driving.
The intercooler has been polished.
Engine has never failed a yearly emissions check. Highway mileage is consistently 24-25MPG for cruising.
Clutch engagement and transmission operation is absolutely perfect, actually smoother than a new Porsche 911. Full set of Bilsteins/H&R Springs, new sway bar bushings and new tires all result in an actual better-than-new driving experience.
Windshield is perfect, as it is new. The convertible top is also new and is OEM Porsche (not cheap aftermarket). The convertible cover boot is also in perfect condition.
The seats have some minimal wear. As typical, mostly just on the driver's left side bolster.
The fold-down rear seat backs are were removed to accomodate the stereo bass enclosure system, but are included for re-installation if desired. (All passengers report that there is much greater comfort and room with the seat backs removed.) Currently, the bass enclosure with amps is removed for rear passenger and storage use. The stereo functions full range with the remaining front and rear MB Quart speakers. Stereo can also be controlled with a remote. There are two remotes (in case one gets lost).
The interior carpeting is excellent. Also included are extra custom floor mats that say "American Roadster." There is a tiny 1/4" flaw in the right side door panel near the speaker, barely visible in the photos.
The dash is perfect. The steering wheel is perfect. The instruments are superb.
The only item that is present but non-functional is the cruise control stalk. This is because turbo engines do not have cruise control. All other systems (air bag system, ABS system, lighting, electric motors in seats and top, etc, are 100%. There are no CELs.
The air conditioner system has been converted to R134A and functions perfectly.
Spare tire is present and unused.
The original rear fold down seat backs and original Blaupunkt radio and amplifier are included.
The original owner's manual and tool kit are not available.
The VIN # is WP0CB2963NS460811. The car and title are rebuilt.
Maintenance is very straightforward - anything regarding the engine is treated as a 1992 911 Turbo, anything regarding the rest of the car is treated as a 1992 American Roadster.
This car needs nothing. It is ready for use as a reliable daily driver, as well as any length trip across the US.
